About the Winemaker

Vintner David Fleming started his career in winemaking in 1995, augmenting hands-on experience with course work in enology at U.C. Davis, and in 2012 took over as Winemaker for Chateau Bellamonte. Mr. Fleming’s winemaking philosophy is to let the vineyard speak for itself through minimal intervention in the cellar: “the wonderful Santa Lucia Highlands fruit I work with makes my job easy – I try not to get in the way of that special ‘sense of place’ being expressed in the bottle.” His “never satisfied, always something more to learn” approach has tabbed him as one of the country’s top up-and-coming boutique winemakers.

Outside of work, Mr. Fleming loves sports, enjoys yoga, and spends as much time as possible with his family. David is an informative and entertaining speaker and is much in demand at trade and consumer events. He is very active in the community and has spent much of his life in volunteer youth ministry with his church.
